Tony Stewart: Outside the Infield
Tony Stewart likes to live his life wide-open, whether he's navigating through treacherous traffic on the race track, building a successful business or giving back to his community. With his driving talent, dedication to philanthropy and strong entrepreneurial spirit, Stewart is a proven winner - on and off the track.
Giving Back - Stewart is passionate about making a real difference in the lives of others. In 2003, he founded his own charitable foundation known as the Tony Stewart Foundation. The organization's goal is to raise funds that will be primarily distributed to three specific groups - children, drivers and animals. To date, the Foundation has raised more than $2.1 million to assist charitable initiatives for more than 80 organizations throughout the United States. One of the prime beneficiaries of the Foundation is the Victory Junction Gang Camp in Randleman, N.C., which serves as a year-round camp for children ages seven to 15 with life-threatening illnesses.
Returning To His Roots - Before taking on team ownership in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series with Stewart-Haas Racing, Tony was honing his business skills at Tony Stewart Racing (TSR). TSR fields two entries in the USAC Midget and Sprint Car divisions and two entries in the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, giving up-and-coming drivers a chance to hone their skills much like Tony did years ago. In its eight year history, TSR has captured nine championships - seven in USAC and two in the World of Outlaws.
Playing In The Dirt - Stewart's support of grassroots racing extends to track ownership. He owns Eldora Speedway, a half-mile dirt oval where he frequently raced as an up-and-coming USAC driver, and is part-owner of two other dirt tracks - Paducah (Ky.) International Raceway and Macon (Ill.) Speedway. Stewart has proven to be a hands-on owner, assisting with everything from preparing the track to handing out awards during the season-ending championship banquet. Eldora also plays host to Stewart's annual "Prelude to the Dream" charity race, which to date has raised more than $1.5 million for Victory Junction Gang Camp.
Diversified Entrepreneur - Aside from team and track ownership, Tony has established several other successful business ventures, including his merchandising company and public relations/marketing firm, True Speed Communication; Ohio-based trucking company TSM Logistics; CustomWorks, a remote-control car company based in Denver, N.C. and his own aviation company.
Animal Lover - Tony is also an animal enthusiast, most recently having served as the surrogate parent for 16 abandoned deer for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. Tony also owns two Tonkinese cats, Wylie and Wyatt; one Chihuahua, Kayle; one Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix, Deuce; and a monkey, Mojo, who resides at the Louisville Zoo.
